When I walked out of here with my Joci Award, an award I earned solely on the merits of a craft I care so deeply about, it was the first time in my life that I felt I was making my way as an artist. Over the next seven years when I faced lots of no’s and struggled with self-doubt, I thought about that night and these people who were willing to trust in me, support me, and believe in me, and that made all the difference.
